Hit-and-Runs Injure Countless Pedestrians

The United States Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have performed studies on the frequency of hit-and-run crashes and the types of victims that are typically involved. Most hit-and-run crashes happen at night, on weekends, and involve drivers who are intoxicated, unlicensed or uninsured.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also reported that there were over 4,000 pedestrian fatalities in 2009 alone. The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety reports that about 11 percent of all crashes involve a hit-and-run driver, and many fatally injured victims in hit-and-run crashes are pedestrians.

If You Are The Victim Of A Hit-and-Run Accident

If you are injured in a hit-and-run accident, there are things you can do to protect your rights. Even if the driver is not located, your own insurance company may be responsible for paying some or all of your expenses. The police will also work to locate the driver, and witnesses may be able to assist in this process.

However, even if the driver is located and brought to justice, the question of whether your medical bills and other expenses will be paid is still open. In order to recover these monetary damages, you may need to hire a personal injury attorney.
