rollover crashPolice reported that two people were injured in a Saturday night rollover crash on State Route 52. The crash occurred around 7 p.m. near the Clairemont Mesa Boulevard exit. According to a witness, a Toyota drove across three lanes and rolled off the side of the road. It came to rest on its roof. Two people, a man and a woman, were in the Toyota and taken to Scripps La Jolla. Their current condition is not known.

The Dangers of a Rollover Crash

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a rollover crash will have a higher fatality rate than other types of traffic crashes. Statistics reveal that 2.7 percent of occupants were killed in rollover accidents compared to .2 percent of occupants killed in non-rollover crashes. Data also shows that rollover crashes constitute about one-fifth of all fatal crashes, although they make up only about three percent of all traffic crashes.

A rollover crash can occur as the result of many different factors, from speed to road conditions to the actions of other drivers on the road. When someone is acting negligently, such as speeding and swerving in and out of traffic, it is possible that the driver could bump another car or cause someone to swerve to avoid being hit. This could cause one of the drivers to hit the shoulder, leading to a rollover. This is not the only way a rollover crash can occur, but it is a good example of how a negligent driver can cause a rollover accident.

Who is Responsible?

If you are involved in a rollover accident that was caused by another driver, you have the right to seek compensation for your damages. When a driver acts negligently, he or she is not the only one at risk. Negligent driving endangers everyone else on the road, as well. Each driver is expected to use common sense and caution when driving. However, many do not. From texting and driving to drinking and driving, there are many negligent actions that can cause accidents. When the accident involves a rollover, the damages are likely to be substantial.
