Society places such faith medicine that we tend to believe that since a doctor prescribes a drug, it is safe. Unfortunately, all too often, we discover that a prescription drug recommended by our doctor have serious side effects such as nausea, heart disease and chronic inflammatory myopathy. These are some of the most dangerous prescription drugs.

Prednisone or cortisone is extremely effective for treating short-term ailments, such as poison ivy. When used over the long term, though, Prednisone may cause such disorders as hypertension, ulcers, cataracts and intestinal bleeding.

Blood thinners

Usually prescribed to prevent strokes and heart attacks, blood-thinning medications, such as Coumadin (aka, Warfarin) may cause severe bleeding from the smallest cut.

ADD and ADHD medicine

Ritalin and Adderall are the brand-name drugs used to treat attention deficit disorder (ADD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Handed out like candy to schoolchildren, they can develop psychological dependency and side effects, such as insomnia, hostility and anxiety.

More than six million people in the United States are using Prozac to treat depression. Highly addictive, Prozac can cause akathisia, a condition of constant agitation that may lead to hostile and violent behavior.

Drugs for cholesterol reduction, such as Mevacor and Pravachol, are known as statins. Although they provide a benefit by reducing cholesterol production, they also cause dangerous side effects, such as muscle inflammation, cataracts and liver toxicity.

Arthritis medicine

Arthritis involves inflamed joints. Historians believe there are references to arthritis-like conditions in ancient Greek and Roman literature. Conventional medicine says to treat arthritis with powerful prescription nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as Ibuprofen, Celebrex and Naproxen. However, these medications cause kidney and liver damage and gastrointestinal upset.

Blood pressure medication

Beta blockers refer to a class of drugs prescribed to lower blood pressure. These drugs, which include Lopressor, Inderal or Tenormin, have the following side effects: loss of libido, fatigue, impotence and heart damage.

Lawsuits based on injuries suffered from dangerous drugs fall under products liability law. California is a strict liability state, which means all you need to prove is that the prescription drug was defective and that your injuries were caused by the defective drug.
