santee new traffic lightIn response to resident concerns and a tragic crash that killed a 17-year-old boy in April, a developer is preparing to install a traffic light on Mast Boulevard at the sight of Pardee Homes in Santee, according to reports. This location had been scheduled to receive a traffic light next year, but the crash that took the life of Ryan Willweber, a West Hills High School student, has pushed the scheduled installation up.

Pardee Homes has been planning a 330-unit housing development just across the street from the Santee school for several years. Willweber of El Cajon was turning left out of the school campus when he was hit by an SUV. His younger brother, Cory, and the student driving the SUV, Anthony Ortiz, were injured. Ortiz was not cited; neither speed nor alcohol appear to have been a factor in the crash.

Dangerous Intersections and Personal Injury Crashes

While drivers have the primary responsibility for being cautious on the road and avoiding collisions, there are also cases where road conditions can contribute to crashes. For example, if a stop sign is knocked down and a city fails to put it back up in a timely manner, the city might be considered responsible if a driver entered the intersection and hit another car.

While the city, county, or state may be responsible in some accidents such as this, there is also a chance that a private individual or company may also share responsibility. When developers plan new housing developments, for example, they are expected to be mindful of the safety of those around them and provide for traffic issues and other concerns while they are building. They are also expected to clearly mark dangerous areas in their developments and take necessary and reasonable precautions to avoid injuries on the part of innocent victims.

Car accident cases often have complicated reasons behind them, and it can be almost impossible for the average person to decipher the myriad rules, regulations and laws that may apply. In most cases, those who have been injured in a car crash of any type will benefit from the advice and help of a personal injury attorney like Dan Gilleon of San Diego.
