Five Injured in San Diego Crash

car crash causes major injuryPolice have reported that a violent three-vehicle crash has left five people injured. The incident occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. near El Camino Real. Police are trying to determine if speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.

According to police sources, a 2003 Chevy Impala, headed west in a simulated median, attempted to turn into the eastbound fast lane, causing it to collide head-on with a 2010 Mazda. The Chevy then crashed into a 1993 Toyota pickup truck that was behind the Mazda. The male driver of the Mazda was severely injured and freed from the wreckage by fire crews. He was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla and is being treated for head trauma as well as a broken leg and arm. The female passenger and the driver of the Impala were both unconscious and were taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. Another passenger in the Impala was taken to Tri-City Medical Center. The driver of the pickup truck sustained cuts to the face as well and was complaining of chest and abdominal pain. She was taken to Palomar Medical Center.

According to one officer, “After it was all said and done and all the bodies were taken out, I saw firemen hugging each other…I talked to a police officer and he was a little emotional. He was one of the first officers on scene to see that type of damage…This was an emotional scene for the firefighters and the police officers.” Police are asking for witnesses to come forward.
